About Romiley Golf Club
Romiley Golf Club, established in 1897 and originally known as Woodley and Romiley Golf Club, is situated on the edge of the Derbyshire Hills, offering views across the Cheshire countryside and towards the Peak District National Park. The course, designed by Tom Renouf, is an 18-hole parkland layout. Renouf, a Jersey-born professional golfer, also played a significant role in supervising the construction and maintenance of the Manchester Golf Club's site at Hopwood, designed by Harry Colt. The initial 9-hole course at Romiley was laid out by Arthur Larder in 1898, with a new, longer 9-hole layout developed by Larder and Charles Le Chevalier opening in 1909. The full 18-hole layout, measuring 6,120 yards, designed by Renouf and overseen by the then Club Professional Gordon Good, opened in 1926. The course has undergone changes over the years to form the current layout, which measures 6,355 yards from the competition tees. The par is 70. The course is known for its tree-lined fairways and strategically placed bunkers, providing a test of a golfer's abilities and course management. The fourteenth and sixteenth holes are noted for their difficulty, with the latter also offering particularly stunning views. Romiley Golf Club has hosted Open competitions.
