About Mitcham Golf Club

Mitcham Golf Club, established in 1891, holds a place in the history of golf in England. The course, originally laid out by Old Tom Morris, who won four Open Championships, is a parkland course located on Mitcham Common. While the layout has evolved over the years, it retains some of its original character with mature fairways and challenging greens. The club has a unique history, originating as the exclusive Prince's Golf Club before a successful lawsuit in 1910 by local artisans from Mitcham Village Golf Club established the public's right to play on the common. The original clubhouse, built from the Royal Navy Exhibition at Chelsea, burned down in 1933 and was replaced by the current building. The course, a par 69, measures around 5935 to 6022 yards from the white tees. It is described as a flat, somewhat narrow course with tree-lined fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and natural hazards, including a hole requiring an approach over Mitcham Pond. The course demands accurate shot-making and consistent putting.
