Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club, established in 1882 by Dr. Clark, holds the distinction of being Somerset's oldest golf course still played on its original layout. Initially a 9-hole course designed by John Allan, the professional at Royal North Devon, it was expanded to 18 holes in 1901. The course presents a blend of links and parkland characteristics, set against the backdrop of the Brendon Hills with views of the Bristol Channel. While it may not possess the dramatic dunes of some other links courses, it offers an honest test of golf with well-regarded greens that are playable year-round. The inward nine, routed closer to the coast, provides some particularly enjoyable links holes. The club has a history of hosting county and regional events.
