Longcliffe Golf Club
Parkland Course in Loughborough, England
Longcliffe Golf Club, established in 1906, is a parkland course set on the lower slopes of Charnwood Forest in Leicestershire, England. Designed by Tom Williamson, with his brother Hugh serving as the first professional, the course was expanded to 18 holes shortly after the initial nine opened in 1906. The construction of the M1 motorway in the 1960s necessitated some alterations, including the loss of the 8th green, 9th hole, and 10th tee. Further improvements were made in the early 1980s by Donald Steel, who added new tees and remodelled the 15th. The course is characterized by tree-lined fairways, with mature trees separating many holes, and features heather and gorse reflecting its heathland character. Notable holes include the par three 15th with a pond and bunker complex. While not one of the most famous courses in the UK, it has a respected local reputation and has hosted events such as the English Boys Championship and served as a practice venue for the Curtis Cup team.
