Perched on the dramatic North Devon coastline, Ilfracombe Golf Club, founded in 1892, offers a truly distinctive golfing experience where the sea is ever-present. The course, while not exceptionally long at around 5,795 yards from the back tees with a par of 69, presents a compelling challenge with its undulating terrain and the unpredictable coastal wind. Notably, the layout features a series of par threes early in the round (holes 2-4) and some old-fashioned crossing fairways. Highlights include the par five 1st hole, which hugs the coastline, the dogleg par five 8th, the challenging par four 13th (stroke index 1), and the par three 18th playing towards the clubhouse. The club has a history dating back to a modest start in a field in the St. Brannock's Park area before officially forming and later establishing itself above Hele Bay. Part of the course was even ploughed over for the war effort during WWI, being restored in 1920.
