Hillsborough Golf Club

Established in 1920, Hillsborough Golf Club is set in the rolling hills of Sheffield, offering engaging parkland golf with views of the surrounding countryside. The course, designed by architects including Tom Williamson, T.S. Sykes, and G.S. Harrison, presents a good test of golf without excessive length. While not among the UK's most famous, it is considered one of the better golfing venues in the North of England. The club has a history that predates its formal founding, with origins as a respite from the First World War on the site of an old ganister quarry. The initial conditions were quite basic, with quarry remnants and water hazards. A wooden clubhouse was erected in 1922, and the club members purchased the land a decade later. A new clubhouse opened in 1936, visited by Ryder Cup player Charles A. Whitcombe. The club has hosted open events, but there is no indication that it has been an Open Qualifying location.
