Dore and Totley Golf Club ( (Winter))

Parkland Course in Sheffield, England

Dore and Totley Golf Club, founded in 1913, is a mature parkland course situated in Sheffield, England, close to the Derbyshire Peak District. The club was established by a group of golfers seeking to play on Sundays, which was prohibited by the Sheffield Union at the time, and was named after the local railway station, the primary mode of transport beyond the city limits in that era. Originally an 18-hole course, it was completed in 1915 with a design that included two loops of nine holes. Dr. Alister MacKenzie is credited with designing some of the greens. James Braid also advised on additional bunkering in 1922. The course underwent significant development in 2005 with the addition of five new holes and redesigns to the existing layout, resulting in a 23-hole facility that offers both a summer and a winter course. The winter course provides a par 69 challenge over 5,605 yards, while the summer course is a par 72 stretching to 6,763 yards from the white tees. Although the course features subtle slopes and rolling fairways, it is noted as being one of the least undulating in the Sheffield area. The club has a strong history, with memorabilia on display, including items from Arthur Lees, who represented his country in the Ryder Cup on four occasions. Notable golfers such as George Duncan, Abe Mitchell, Harry Vardon, and Tony Jacklin have played competitively at the course.
