Merthyr Tydfil Golf Club

Established in 1909 as Cilsanws Golf Club, Merthyr Tydfil Golf Club is set on Cilsanws mountain, with a significant portion of the course lying within the Brecon Beacons National Park. This mountain-top course offers a challenging round with notable elevation changes and expansive views of the surrounding Welsh landscape. The terrain exhibits characteristics akin to both links and heathland layouts, with peat-based fairways that can contribute to the course playing longer than its yardage suggests, particularly when factoring in the prevalent winds. Accuracy from the tee is paramount to navigating the test presented here. The course, originally a 10-hole layout, was extended to 18 holes in stages, reaching its current configuration in 1997. The design of the newer holes and alterations were undertaken by club members Vivian Price and Richard Mathias. The club does not appear to have hosted Open Championship Qualifying events.
