Parkland Course in Monkstown, Ireland
Monkstown Golf Club, established in 1908 overlooking Cork Harbour, offers a mature parkland test with a rich history. Originally a nine-hole layout, the course was extended to 18 holes in 1971, moving from its historic castle clubhouse to a new facility. Significant input from renowned architect Alister MacKenzie shaped the course in its early years, with later enhancements including strategic bunkering and the introduction of water features on the back nine. The course presents a varied challenge, featuring tree-lined fairways and notable holes such as the MacKenzie-designed 6th. The closing holes, particularly the 17th and 18th, are known for their difficulty, demanding precision to finish a round strongly on this well-regarded Cork layout.
