Royston Golf Club, situated on Therfield Heath near the Cambridgeshire border, boasts a rich history that reputedly dates back to 1624 with the 1st Earl of Buckingham. The current 18-hole heathland course, one of the oldest in England, was first laid out by two Cambridge students in 1869. Over the years, efforts have been made to preserve its unique character, set across chalk hills within a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Designed by legendary architect Harry Vardon, the course offers a links-like feel due to its well-drained landscape. At around 6000 yards with a par of 70, it presents a varied challenge with notable par-threes and drivable par-fours, demanding skill and local knowledge. Its elevated position provides expansive views across the surrounding counties, making for a scenic as well as strategic test of golf year-round.
