Nestled within the scenic Ashdown Forest in England, the West Course at Royal Ashdown Forest Golf Club offers a distinct golfing experience shaped by its rich history and natural landscape. Originally established in 1889 as a nine-hole Ladies course, it was expanded to eighteen holes in 1932 and later became part of the main club, eventually being renamed the West Course. This heathland and woodland layout is notable for its complete absence of bunkers, relying instead on the natural hazards of undulating terrain, heather, and strategically placed trees to challenge players. Accuracy is paramount on the West Course, with its often tight, tree-lined fairways leading to smaller, sometimes elevated greens. While perhaps not as widely known as its sister course, the West provides an engaging test of golf that requires thoughtful course management.
