Macdonald Portal Golf Club (Championship Course)

The Championship Course at Macdonald Portal Hotel, Golf & Spa, located in the serene Cheshire countryside, opened in 1990 and was designed by Donald Steel. It quickly gained recognition, being named 'Golf Course of the Year' in 1995. The course is known for its distinctive holes, incorporating expansive water hazards and cascading waterfalls into the design. Notable holes include the lengthy par-5 third, which measures over 600 yards and features a green guarded by a lake, and the par-three 14th, known as "The Horn," also surrounded by water. The par-four 17th, named "Waterloo," presents another challenge with water in play. The course, a parkland layout, plays to a par of 73 and stretches over 7000 yards from the back tees. While not a traditional Open Qualifying venue, it has hosted significant events, including being a qualifier location for the Springfield Golf tour.
