Royal Liverpool Golf Club, affectionately known as Hoylake, is a storied links course on the Wirral Peninsula in England. Founded in 1869 on the grounds of the Liverpool Hunt Club racecourse, it is the second oldest seaside course in England. Originally laid out with 9 holes by Robert Chambers and George Morris, it was extended to 18 holes in 1871, the same year it received its 'Royal' designation. The course has evolved over time, with significant redesign work by Harry Colt in the early 20th century to challenge the best players as equipment technology advanced. While relatively flat in areas, particularly near the clubhouse, the course utilizes the dunes closer to the sea to create challenging relief and demands precise shot-making and strategic course management, especially when the ever-present wind is a factor. Hoylake has a rich championship history, having hosted The Open Championship 13 times and numerous amateur events, including the Amateur Championship, the Women's British Open, and the Walker Cup. It has also served as a Final Qualifying location for The Open.
