Great Barr Golf Club, situated in the West Midlands near Birmingham, offers a parkland golfing experience with a history dating back to 1935 when golf was first played on the site under the Calthorpe Golf Club banner. The club was formally established as Great Barr Golf Club Ltd in 1961, with a focus on improving the course and facilities. The current layout is largely the result of work completed in 1983, following earlier redesigns by architects including Hawtree in 1972 and Hamilton-Stutt in 1980. In 1996, renowned architect Donald Steel was commissioned for further proposals, leading to a ten-year plan that introduced features such as bunkers, tree planting, ponds, and ditches, finalized in 2006. The course is known for its undulating fairways, strategic bunkers, and well-maintained greens, providing a challenging yet enjoyable round with views towards Barr Beacon. While not a widely recognized championship venue, the club does host various amateur open competitions.
