Appleby Golf Club, situated in Cumbria, England, offers a compelling inland links experience on Brackenber Moor. Founded in 1894 and reformed at its current location in 1903, the course was laid out by Open Champion Willie Fernie. It utilizes the natural contours of the moorland, featuring heather and bracken as hazards. Described as an "Inland Links" or moorland course, it sits on a sandstone bedrock, allowing for year-round playability. The course is known for its undulating fairways, strategic layout, and notably, the quality of its greens, which are considered among the best in Cumbria throughout the year. A distinctive feature is that no two holes run parallel to each other. While the course is a par 68 with a yardage under 6000 yards, it presents a stern test with several long par 4s and an absence of par 5s. Memorable holes include the downhill par 3 4th, the uphill 5th with a challenging green, and the signature 15th, known as "Bell," a blind par 3 playing to a sunken green with Hilton Beck guarding the right side. Appleby Golf Club has hosted county championships and appears to have hosted 36-hole scratch open events as part of the Cumbria Master Golfer series.
