About Mountain Ash Golf Club
Nestled atop Cefnpennar Mountain with commanding views of the surrounding Cynon Valley and distant Brecon Beacons, Mountain Ash Golf Club offers a genuine Welsh moorland golf experience. The club traces its origins back to 1908, initially established as Aberdare Valley Golf Club with a 9-hole layout designed by J.H.S. Morris. It evolved to 12 holes in 1919 before becoming a full 18-hole course in 1922, a configuration that largely remains today. Renamed Mountain Ash after the Second World War, the course presents a traditional, unpretentious test. While not long by modern standards, its design features such as crossing fairways, strategic blind shots, and the ever-present gorse, stone walls, and sloping lies demand thoughtful play. The greens can be tricky, adding another layer of challenge. The closing hole, a downhill par five, offers a potentially rewarding finish to a round on this historic valley course.
