Letham Grange Golf Club
Parkland Course in Arbroath, Scotland
Letham Grange Golf Club, located near Arbroath in the Angus countryside, Scotland, was renowned for its two parkland courses, the championship Old Course and the shorter Glens Course. The Old Course, a challenging Par 73 layout measuring up to 6968 yards from the blue tees, was designed by Donald Steel and opened in 1987 by Sir Henry Cotton. It featured a mix of tree-lined and open fairways with memorable water hazards, particularly around the 8th and 10th holes. Once dubbed the 'Augusta of the North' and hosting prestigious events like the Scottish Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship, it offered a varied test for golfers. The facility included a pro shop, driving range, putting green, chipping areas, changing rooms, restaurant, bar, and offered buggy and trolley hire. Lodging was also available on site in the mansion house hotel. Despite its quality and reputation, the golf club closed in 2019 due to a long-running legal dispute over property ownership.
