West Cornwall Golf Club, established in 1889, holds the distinction of being the oldest golf club in Cornwall. Laid out by Reverend F Tyacke, this classic links course is set against a stunning backdrop overlooking St Ives Bay and the Hayle Estuary. The design embraces the natural contours of the land and sand dunes, offering panoramic views throughout the round. Playing to a par of 69, the course measures around 5850 yards from the white tees, providing a test that often involves navigating the coastal wind. While not a modern championship leviathan, it presents an enjoyable and traditional links challenge. The club has a notable connection to World Golf Hall of Famer Jim Barnes, who hailed from the area. West Cornwall has also hosted various amateur events, including Junior Open Daily Telegraph Qualifiers.
