Newport Golf Club
Downland Course in Newport, England
Perched on the downs overlooking Newport, the capital of the Isle of Wight, Newport Golf Club offers a golfing experience rooted in history, with stunning vistas stretching towards the mainland coast. The club traces its origins back to 1896, initially situated at Shide. However, the course moved to its current location on St George's Down, crafted from reclaimed quarry land, opening in 1983. The layout is a challenging downland course, demanding accuracy and thoughtful shot-making. While a nine-hole course, the design provides a distinct feel on the back nine with altered tee positions on some holes. It's a club built by golfers, for golfers, providing an enjoyable test amidst the island's scenic landscape.
