Ellesmere Port Golf Club (Hooton)

Ellesmere Port Golf Club, formerly known as Hooton Golf Club, is an 18-hole parkland course located in Cheshire, England. The course, which was re-opened in April 2019 as The Ian Woosnam Golf Academy, offers a challenging yet enjoyable experience with a mix of brooks, ponds, mature trees, and strategically placed bunkers. The layout, stretching over 6296 yards with a par of 71 from the white tees, provides a good test for golfers of varying abilities. The closing four holes are particularly notable, with the 17th, a 189-yard par 3, standing out as the signature hole, demanding a precise shot to a green guarded by woodland and a ditch. While the historical origins of golf in the immediate Hooton area can be traced back to the early 1900s with a 9-hole course on farmland, Hooton Golf Club itself was founded in 1913, initially as Hooton Park Golf Club, expanding to 18 holes by the mid-1920s. The land was leased from Sir Charles Stanley of Hooton Park. The club became a registered Limited Company in 1924.
