Laytown & Bettystown Golf Club, established in 1909, sits on the scenic east coast, offering a traditional links golf experience with a history stretching back to the late 1880s when golf was first played on the dunes here. The course design has seen input from figures like W.C. Pickeman and Cecil Barcroft, with later refinements by club professionals including Robert J. Browne. This classic links layout is characterised by undulating fairways, challenging windswept terrain, and often fast greens, providing a proper test of links golf. While not considered among the absolute top tier globally, it has been recognised as a venue for Open Championship Regional Qualifying, highlighting its quality as a challenging links test. The course weaves through natural burrows and offers coastal views, and the club has a proud history of producing talented golfers, including Ryder Cup players Des Smyth and Philip Walton.
