Carrick on Shannon Golf Club boasts a history stretching back to 1910, having evolved from its early days on different sites to its present home at Woodbrook since 1944. The course as it plays today, an 18-hole parkland layout, was significantly shaped by the expansion completed in 2003, with design input from Martin Hawtree and Marc Westenborg. Situated by the River Shannon with views of the surrounding mountains and Drumharlow Lake, the course presents a diverse landscape incorporating both mature parkland and areas of marshland. This mix provides for some memorable and challenging holes, including the notable par-3 8th with its water-surrounded tee box and the demanding par-3 13th.
