Birr Golf Club
Parkland Course in Birr, Northern Ireland
Nestled in County Offaly, Northern Ireland, Birr Golf Club offers a journey through golfing history dating back to its founding in 1893. Originally part of the Earl of Rosse's estate, the club moved to its present site known as "The Glenns" in 1909. The 18-hole parkland course is carved from natural woodland and eskers, presenting undulating fairways, ridges, and hollows that provide a distinctive challenge. Recent redesigns by Eddie Connaughton have refined the layout. While not a championship venue, the course is known for its engaging terrain, offering an inland experience often likened to coastal links in its movement and character. Play requires thoughtful strategy, particularly on holes like the challenging tenth which plays alongside the clubhouse.
