West Hill Golf Club, situated in the heart of the Surrey heathland, is a classic example of early 20th-century golf course architecture. Founded in 1910, the course was laid out by Cuthbert S. Butchart at the behest of Mrs. Marguerite Lubbock, who sought a club where women were more readily welcomed. As one of the renowned trio of '3 Ws' in the area (alongside Woking and Worplesdon), West Hill offers a delightful journey through towering Scots pines and swathes of challenging heather, with the Brookwood brook influencing play on several holes. The course, largely untouched since its inception, is celebrated for its well-maintained, fast-running fairways and subtly undulating greens that demand a deft touch. While not an Open Championship venue, West Hill has a history of hosting significant events, including qualifying for the News of the World tournament in 1931. Consistently ranked among the top courses in England, it provides a stern yet enjoyable test of heathland golf.
